Photos like this one demonstrate your attention to detail; this one was taken by Al Ferreira onsite a client’s facility.

Machine shops like to show off their machines or create a list of machines to demonstrate their capabilities.

My response is always, “No one really cares about your machines, but they do care about how you work, achieve precision, eliminate defects, etc. So let’s show it.”

The header image above shows a part being machined. I’m not sure what was being machined; the client and I simply wanted several good machining photos. This is one of them.

The photo is a fantastic example of how to use photography to tell a story — even for something as “mundane” as a part being machined, which is something you see every day but your audience doesn’t.

I love watching Al Ferreira work, so I often take photos of him in action. This photo shows him taking the photo of the part being machined; it’s also part of the “behind the scenes” story.

Al Ferreira in action!

While he’s taking shots, I’m chatting with the client and the machinist. I love to ask questions and get know people. Often, it’s these casual conversations that give me the insight I need into the company’s culture — which is the story I want to share on the website we’re building. I always have my notebook with me so that I can quickly jot notes.

Al takes many shots, checks his iPad several times to see how things look, and once he has what he wants, call us over to look. Everyone is allowed input, minute adjustments are made, and then he takes several more.

“Ok, good? Everything good?” he asks. He packs up his gear and then we’re off to the next shot. He’s incredibly efficient, too. 🙂

As the Project Lead for your Custom Build Website, I ensure all elements of the project, from strategy and copy to photography and design, tell your unique and wonderful story.
