“Sitting is the new smoking.” Ha! I read that several years ago in the book, Deskbound: Standing Up to a Sitting World by Dr. Kelly Starrett. I made it my mission to sit less and move more, including getting a standing desk (one of Starrett’s recommendations).
I did a fair amount of research. Much of what’s available is a combination of Made in USA (the desktop part) and made somewhere else (legs, electronics).
Then I discovered iMovR — budget-friendly AND 100% made in the USA!
I actually took delivery of the Energize model standing desk back in January, and am only now writing about it due to finally purchasing a phone tripod so that I can take selfies like the one above. 😀
The desk arrived on a pallet and was super easy to put together by myself. Once assembled and set to the correct height, I never went back to sitting. My Herman Miller office chair is now down cellar.
I’ve recommended the iMovR desk to several people who ask about it when they see me standing on Zoom / Teams calls. It’s sturdy and is quite deep. After a few months of use, I added a web cam to my monitor to make video calls easier.
In the photo, you can see other Made in USA items. My skirt was made by Eva Varro and the top by Kleids. My office window shade was handcrafted by The Shade Store. I made the window valance myself using fabric also made in the US. I use Benjamin Moore paint throughout my house. The guy at my local paint store assures me it’s Made in the US.

My mission is to keep manufacturing jobs stateside and this blog is my way of giving back. We like to think a “small” choice, such as purchasing something made in the US by American workers, won’t make a difference. It does.
